You've come to the right page if:
  • Your garden is overflowing with fresh, lovely produce.  You've got kale/potatoes/tomatoes/whatever coming out your ears and you're getting tired of eating it the same couple of ways you know.  Keep an eye out for ideas here!
  • You're trying some new crops this year and you're not...  quite sure...  what to do with them!  Kohlrabi...  Celeriac...  Amaranth...  Orach...  We didn't necessarily grow  up eating these vegetables, but they can all be grown in the Willamette Valley and we should learn to prepare them (the enjoyment will naturally follow!).  Wouldn't it be satisfying (and liberating) to have some recipes that could be prepared using only the produce of your own back yard?  We can tell you, from experience, the answer is "YES!"  Check this page regularly and see what other folks are doing with seasonal, home-grown produce!
  • You're the adventurous cook who is developing delicious new recipes, using only the produce from your garden (with maybe a few spices from exotic lands) and you want to share them with us!

Almost-No-Knead Bread Recipe (with tips by Denise)  Try the walnut version...  it's a suitable substitute for Trader Joe's Walnut Levain--at a fraction of the cost and without much labor involved!  Besides... the Trader Joe's in Eugene doesn't sell Walnut Levain.  Apparently, it's a specialty of the Sacramento store.

Spicy Red Caribbean Gumbo.  Perfect for a cold winter's day!  The broth is vegan and you can add any kind of chunky morsels that appeal to you.  Traditional Gumbo additions include sausage (Andouille, Polish, Smoked, Hot Links, etc.), chicken, ham, seafood, etc., etc.  Vegetarians might add chunks of firm Tofu, Tempeh, mock meat, corn and peas.  With Gumbo, anything goes!

Carrot Ginger Soup.  From Eating Close To Home:  A Guide to Local Seasonal Sustenance in the Pactific NorthwestThe carrots, onions, garlic and fennel seed can be grown in your own backyard!  Don't be put off by the fennel seed.  There is no hint of licorice in this soup!  :-)
